The Who's defining, breakthrough concept album Tommy — a full-blown rock opera about a deaf, dumb and blind boy — is a daring, electrifying album that launched the band to international superstardom upon its original release in May 1969 and established The Who as one of the most ambitious forces in rock music.
Conceived and written by guitarist Pete Townshend, Tommy tells the surreal story of a "deaf, dumb and blind" boy who becomes a spiritual and cultural phenomenon. But beyond the narrative, the album is a tour de force of songwriting and performance, packed with iconic tracks like "Pinball Wizard," "I'm Free," and the transcendent finale "We're Not Gonna Take It/See Me, Feel Me" that remains cornerstones of The Who's live performances.
More than half a century later, Tommy remains one of rock’s most celebrated and influential works. For fans of classic rock, it's essential listening. For audiophiles, it's a landmark recording worthy of the very best playback format available. Now, for the first time ever, Tommy receives the Ultra High Quality Record (UHQR) treatment from Acoustic Sounds.
Pressed on 200-gram Clarity Vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, this UHQR edition is designed to reveal every nuance of the album's dynamic soundscape. Clarity Vinyl's translucent, carbon-free formulation dramatically reduces background noise, allowing the music's full detail and impact to emerge from a jet-black background. The result is greater transparency, deeper dynamics, and a level of realism that brings listeners closer to the original master recording than ever before.
From the explosive power of Keith Moon's drums to the thunderous drive of John Entwistle's bass, the shimmering acoustic passages, and Roger Daltrey's commanding vocals, this UHQR pressing lets Tommy breathe in a way few versions ever have.
